Super inexpensive CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? For quite a few years my trusty Sig P239SAS 9mm has been my everyday carry. I shoot it very well and it has merely virtually every bell and whistle possible, only my married womans new Taurus PT111 G2 has me thinking now that I figured out it reliably feeds/functions with Sig 226 mags. Just for kicks I took information technology out to the range the other day and it shot damn near as well every bit my 239 fifty-fifty in a gusty xx-25mph crosswind. Later reviewing the pros/cons of these two pistols, Im honestly on the contend whether to retire my 239 . . . I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts? For a little perspective, I've owned half dozen Sig'due south and vi Taurus guns in the by, all functioned perfectly.
239 Pros:
Proven reliability
Slight border in accurateness
Factory night sights
Perfect custom tuned trigger and action
Higher projectile velocity (0.4 longer barrel)
Softer recoil
Faster accurate follow-upwards shotsPT111 G2 Pros:
Massive price advantage (I have $199 in the PT111 G2, and over $1,000 in the 239SAS)
--- A lot less care about information technology existence taken after a shooting
Massive chapters advantage (12 vs 8 standard, 20 vs 10 extended)
Pregnant weight advantage (26.5oz vs 35.5oz fully loaded)
Easier to conceal (v/viii less length, 1/8 less height, 1/16 slimmer)
Grip allows for full 3 finger purchase
First-class grip stippling
Faster describe speed due to better grip and express length and weight
Surprisingly decent mill trigger
Accessory track
Multiple platform magazine compatibility (P226 is my go-to full size pistol)
Reliable through 200 mixed rounds
Lifetime Warranty
Manual safety (my married woman is a stickler for a manual safety, personally I could care less)

Re: Super inexpensive CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? I think at that place are a good number of quality sub $300.00 SD/CCW pistols out in that location today and Taurus makes a few along with SCCY, and Bersa. The only things I would do differently with one would exist running a few hundreds rounds more through it then I normally would before putting it into a CC rotation and I would look for a practiced non +P performer which nosotros have in the standard 124 HST 9mm round.

Re: Super inexpensive CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? I'1000 super-happy with my Bersa Thunder .380:
It's perhaps my favorite CCW.
On the other end of the scale is my Sig P238 Rainbow Tribal. I consider this 1 a piece of jewelry that only happens to function as a firearm. This is a pocket gun for when I become all dressed-upwardly.

Re: Super inexpensive CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? If you lot can prove an inexpensive gun to be reliable why not.
EDC guns tend to get trounce upwardly a bit, and God preclude if you need to utilize information technology you're going to lose it for an extended period. Better that be a $300 gun.The just thing I would keep in mind is the longevity. If it's going to become a few thousand rounds put down the pipe in a few years it may begin to fail (not necessarily the mistake of the gun since all guns tin fail) and demand either quick replacement or repair. So keep a fill-in ready to go. Not a BUG (unless you're into that) but another gun that can comfortably fall into rotation.
Of course that should already be the case.
FUCK BIDEN

Re: Super inexpensive CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? Lets be existent about this. Would yous trust the gun enough to put your life or a loved ones life on information technology? If then then become for information technology, if not stick to what you know.
If your go to is a P226 the PT111 has compatable mags, the 239 has compatable transmission of arms (ie. Sig trigger pull).
Personally if information technology ain't broke don't fix it the P239 is working and has been for years...why question a good thing.

Re: Super cheap CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? Although the PT111 G2 was a 90% fit in my 239 holster, I decided to option ane up specifically for the Taurus. I figure I'll take turns carrying each and see how it pans out.
Indeed!

Re: Super cheap CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? My thoughts on the cheap Taurus polymers (at to the lowest degree some of them) are adequately well represented, here. I've had a number of them and ran some pretty darn hard. I still go along 2 24/vii Pro 9mm's that have a barrel load of hard rounds through and likely will never sell them unless Taurus goes out of business and/or I couldn't get or make a part I needed. I gauge I was fortunate since I never experienced a failure with one...or...it could be my theory is partly true. Too many make new shooters buy these guns and they have a lot of controls to learn. Not anybody gets it at get-go and the bashing goes into overdrive. At any rate, inexpensive doesn't ever hateful unreliable.

To this solar day, I still retrieve the 24/seven Pro and the G2 (full size) are the all-time performing 9mm's out there....fifty-fifty better than the P30/VP9. I'm not saying they would last as long, but for downright speed shooting off a draw, they are unmatched. After I get a few hundred rounds downward my G17'southward, that could change, 'cause they are pretty darn skillful, too.
Tin can you tell I've been a prisoner in my own home due to my holiday existence 4 days too long?
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' contumely.

Re: Super cheap CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? In conveying a gun for self defense, you're recognizing the possibility that you may need to use it one twenty-four hours to save either your life, or the life of a loved one. If that day always comes, you would give every dollar you lot take to your name to take the all-time equipment possible.
I'm lamentable, simply Taurus does Not make the best equipment. Sure, many of their pistols work fine for the guy who puts 100 rounds a year through his gun. Great. They still aren't the same quality as guns that realistically aren't that much more money. It's always mentioned that people who carry cheaper guns do and so because they won't be lamentable if it gets taken past the police force. If the gun saves your life or a loved one's life, does it really matter what happens to it? I mean really? I comport a $2,000 gun for a expert portion of the year. If it pulled my ass out of the burn, the police can go on it in a locker. Or they can requite it back. Or they tin can cutting information technology up. I actually don't care. I'll buy another 1.
At that place'south no such thing every bit a gratuitous lunch.

Re: Super inexpensive CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? I personally would not rely on a Taurus for carry. Range gun or just something different to add to the drove? Sure definitely.
Sig all the way

Re: Super cheap CCW > expensive & proven CCW??? Stick with the Sig. You've already grown accustomed to and you have already bought and paid for it so at that place'due south no savings to be had in switching to a unlike pistol. And even every bit close as they might be you'll yet need a certain amount of retraining.
